كنيسة الخارطة - القديس جورج ⛪ St George's Church

كنيسة القديس جاورجيوس، المعروفة أيضًا باسم كنيسة الخارطة، هي كنيسة رومانية أرثوذكسية تقع في وسط مدينة مادبا، الأردن. بُنيت الكنيسة في عام 1896 على بقايا كنيسة بيزنطية يعود تاريخها إلى منتصف القرن السادس. تشتهر الكنيسة بخارطة الفسيفساء للأراضي المقدسة، والتي تشمل تصويرات للأردن وفلسطين ودلتا النيل وفينيقيا (لبنان). تمتد هذه الخارطة على مساحة تقدر بحوالي 15.75 متر عرضًا و 5.60 متر طولًا، وتُعد واحدة من أقدم الوثائق الجغرافية للمنطقة، حيث تصف حوالي 150 موقعًا، وتتمركز مدينة القدس في وسطها. تُعتبر الكنيسة ذات أهمية تاريخية وأثرية، حيث تقدم رؤى حول العصر البيزنطي.

St. George’s Church, also known as the Church of the Map, is a Greek Orthodox church located in the center of Madaba, Jordan. The church was built in 1896 on the remains of a Byzantine church dating back to the mid-6th century. It is renowned for its mosaic map of the Holy Land, which includes depictions of Jordan, Palestine, the Nile Delta, and Phoenicia (Lebanon). This map, measuring approximately 15.75 meters wide and 5.60 meters long, is one of the oldest geographic depictions of the region and features around 150 locations, with Jerusalem at its center. The church is significant for its historical and archaeological value, offering insights into the Byzantine era.
